On the afternoon of August 18, we welcomed a little Spark, Isabel, accompanied by her mother, Anna. They had come from Padua to get to know our Luisa a little more closely.
It all began with a drawing made by a Spark from Corato, depicting Luisa’s face. Anna showed it to her daughter and Isabel, intrigued, decided to copy that face onto a sheet of paper. The drawing became so important to her that she hung it on the door of her bedroom. Every morning, when she wakes up, Isabel greets Luisa, and every evening, she wishes her goodnight.
Anna, originally from Corato, has been living with her family in Padua for ten years. She decided to come to Corato, to Luisa’s home, to learn more about the interest that had blossomed in her daughter’s heart.
Isabel says: «I was very happy to visit Luisa’s home, especially her room. I was particularly struck by the bobbin lace work she used to do, a demanding and difficult craft. One detail I remember is that, in her coffin, Luisa was not lying down but sitting, in the same position in which she had spent her entire life in bed.
I was deeply amazed when I saw Luisa’s handwriting on the first page of her Diary, which she began writing on February 28, 1899. Although she had attended only the first two years of elementary school, Luisa had beautiful handwriting and wrote extensively—no fewer than 36 volumes.»
Isabel is the first Spark to become part of the group of Sparks of Corato while living in another city.
