Maria Margarita Chávez Toledo was known to many for the alleged miracle obtained through the intercession of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta in 2007. She was called into God's presence on Sunday, June 30, 2024 at 5:00 a.m. due to cardiac arrest while she was sleeping.  She was 65 years old and had been hospitalized several times, all because of her diabetes. Margarita's health deteriorated over the past two years after the death of her mother Dolores Toledo.

From the moment she came to know the Divine Will, Margarita devoted herself completely to this great Family of Divine Will, spreading and propagating the great Gift of “Living in Divine Will.” She was part of the “House of Divine Will” Association in Miami, Florida. Since 1994 she had been a very active member with Father Carlos Massieu and Mother Marianela Perez. In 2006 she met Sister Assunta Marigliano in Corato, Italy. Margarita was a very helpful person, and those who were close to her and knew her witnessed her love for God and neighbor, especially toward her son Christopher

In April 2007, during the First Week of Easter, Margarita experienced the intercession of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta as she was inexplicably cured of acute pneumonia combined with other complications. She was in the intensive care unit at Doctors Hospital in Miami, Florida, because of a pulmonary occlusion that was getting worse every day. She was intubated and in an induced coma. Doctors said there was nothing more they could do for her as she was no longer responding to any treatment or medication. According to the team of doctors attending to her, death from total pulmonary occlusion was imminent. In fact, she had only 48 hours left to live.

Her inexplicable healing: on Wednesday of the first week of Easter, Father Alfredo Cioffi placed the relic of the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta on Margarita's chest and recited the official prayer for Luisa's Beatification, asking the Most Holy Trinity for the grace to heal Margarita, if it was God's Will. The next morning, Margarita's lungs gradually began to clear, until she was extubated and could breathe completely on her own. Although the stroke (which she had suffered some twenty years earlier) and juvenile diabetes remained as underlying factors, Margarita was also in renal failure and on dialysis. Doctors, after this, confirmed her unexplained recovery. From that moment, Margarita's life changed: her recovery from the lung problem was so significant that, in September of that year, she was able to endure a third kidney transplant.

On Sept. 27, 2008, this alleged miracle attributed to the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta was presented for her beatification process to the relevant authorities: first to the Archbishop of Miami, John Clement Favalora, and a few days later to Msgr. Giovanni Battista Picchierri, Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Trani-Barletta-Bisceglie, to Sister Assunta Marigliano, president of the Luisa Piccarreta Association, and to the postulator of the Cause at that time, Silvia Mónica Correale, with all the documentation of the witnesses present in those days and the doctors.

In April 2015, Margarita Chávez personally testified at the Fourth International “Church in the Divine Will” Congress in Corato, Italy. We conclude by quoting Margarita's words at that Congress:

I give many thanks to God our Lord for hearing the prayers that so many people who love me very much have expressed in favor of my healing. Furthermore, I feel extremely privileged and completely unworthy of the grace of this miraculous healing. I pray to the Most Holy Trinity and Our Blessed Mother that the Servant of God Luisa Piccarreta will soon be beatified and canonized if it is Divine Will.”
